You've traveled in Taipei for many days or even lived here for years. Do you know how many roads are named after the cities in China?
If you are familiar with the geography in China, you probably notice that many roads in Taipei are named after some big cities in China. The most interesting thing is that the location of the roads in Taipei correspond to the cities' location in China. For example, the Chongqing road is at the west side, the Changchun road is quite north and etc. Therefore, you won't get lost in Taipei if you are familiar with the geography in China.
For the east-west directional roads, they also have special meanings. From the north to the south, the name starts from the "Three Principles of People" and then "eight morals" roads. If you know Chinese culture well enough, it's not hard for you to remeber these names, too.

In general, the roads in Taipei are like grids. However, some roads are not that straight. Why? It's because there were some streams flowing in Taipei. With the modernization, the streams are changed into roads so that's why they are not straight right now. Like the photo above, children can actually swim in Taipei and it's not Tamshui river.
Now, you can use the google map and compare the names of the roads in Taipei and the cities in China. You will find it interesting and it's easy for you to learn the geography in China, too.
