Why Does A Korean Guy Loves Taiwanese the most?

A tourist in my tour told me that he has already stayed in Taipei for a month. I was shocked at the beginning but I understood that after he gave me the reasons. He is a Korean from Seoul. He is a freelancer who usually translates documents for companies. I’m not sure how many languages he can speak. During the conversation I had with him, I think he at least can speak Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese. He is learning many dialects like Cantonese, Hokkien and other Chinese dialects. Actually, it’s his fourth time in Taiwan. This time, he spent some time with his customer and met many friends here. Why does he want to visit Taiwan so many times?

The main reason he told me is Taiwanese people are so friendly and cute. He loves the way we talk. Many words or phrases are only used in Taiwan and you cannot hear them in other Chinese speaking countries. He said when guys from mainland China heard how the Taiwanese girls talked, they got blush on their faces. That’s because the way we talk is softer and sweeter than how the Beijingers speak. He felt that even the way elders speak is also very cute. You can speak to the elders and your boss/supervisor as if you are talking to your best friends. It is quite different from Japan and Korea where people have to show great respects to the elders and their boss/supervisor. When I left the café we had the conversation, I said “bye!” to an elder who sat next to us. He said this has never happened in Japan or in Korea.

Furthermore, Taiwanese people like to share interesting stories to foreigners, especially the taxi drivers. He said the first thing he will do when he comes to Taiwan is to talk to Taiwanese people. The second thing is to taste the food in the small streets which are not in the tourist books. The last is to visit the tourist attractions. As a Korean who can speak several languages and has been to many countries says he loves Taiwanese the most. I think it is really convincible.

Next time if you come to Taiwan, spend more times talking with Taiwanese people. I think you will feel the same thing!
